HELP benefit to recognize Las Vegans Sparks, Kummer

HELP of Southern Nevada will honor Carolyn Sparks and Thomas Kummer at its annual Mardi Gras fundraiser March 1 at the South Point.

Sparks's humanitarian efforts span more than 35 years. Her earliest involvement was as an area chairwoman for the American Cancer Society and fundraiser for the Junior Mesquite Club. She currently works with the Nevada Children's Center.

Sparks founded and chaired the University Medical Center Foundation. She was elected for two terms as a trustee to the state's university sysem.

Her position with the Junior League of Las Vegas has allowed her to work on the Beckley House and the Morelli House. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.

Kummer is one of the founding members of the statewide law firm of Kummer Kaempfer Bonner Renshaw & Ferrario.

He has been practicing law in Nevada since his arrival at Nellis Air Force Base as a captain in the JAG Corps in November 1968.

Kummer has been on the board of trustees for HELP of Southern Nevada since 1991 and has served as its legal counsel. He is a member of the Nevada, Clark County and American Bar Associations and a former member and chair of the Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee of the Nevada State Bar. He was recently selected for inclusion in the Corporate Counsel Edition of Super Lawyers.
