Nevada Opera Theatre soiree raises spirits as it raises cash
The Guild of Nevada Opera Theatre and opera's Divas and Divos held a fundraising soiree at the Sun City Anthem home of Linda Cassese where guests enjoyed an afternoon of refreshments and entertainment.
Nevada Opera Theatre is in its 27th year and has developed a professional opera company, but fundraisers are needed for its expensive productions and to continue its outreach program in Clark County's at-risk schools.
Nevada Opera Theatre founder and director Eileen Hayes welcomed guests including Sidra Kane, Linn and Daryl Thome, Arlene and Seymour Cohen, Rosita Kanes, Beverly and Mike Mykisen, Patricia Martinelli and Danny Ray.
The event showcased the piano artistry of Jonathan Gorst. Ms. Nevada 2010, Marilyn Faye O'Leary-Baker, a professional singer, performed a selection of classical Broadway tunes.
Denny Weddle, president of Nevada Opera Theatre, introduced the cast of "Old West Musical Revue," which is appearing through Aug. 26 at Bonnie Springs Ranch. The program brought back memories of good old entertainment as performed by Gorst, Solinea Stark, Jeanne Brei, Nellie Norris and Enoch Augustus Scott.
Opera's own soloist, Ben Litvinoff, sang a repertoire of patriotic songs.
More guests enjoying the soiree were Karen Fallon, Christine McKellar, Karen Scherer, Dianne and Perry Paschall, Linsey Stratton, Mike Haws, Emily Bayler, Jean DiLaura, Evan Rodgers, Adrienne and Cranston Rodgers, Bella Rodriguez, Toni McCann, Paula Perez, Joyce Saleh, Heidi Meyer, Lisa Regimbal, George Blackwell, Sara Aguinaga and Randy Johnson.
