Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, 4-mile hike with some scrambling into Pine Creek Canyon. On Tuesday, a strenuous 3-mile loop to the top of the red mantle of Calico Hills. On Friday, a moderately easy, 3-mile hike at Oak Creek. On Saturday, a moderate, 3-mile hike to Calico Hills. On Dec. 12, a 3-mile hike with some scrambling at Sandstone Quarry Arch (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three-to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's website: www.aroundthebendfriends.com.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, an art class for those 15 and older. No experience necessary, all supplies are included. On Friday, a canyon clean up is scheduled. On Saturday, an ongoing program from 10 a.m. to noon at the visitor center on animals in the Red Rock Canyon area. Also Saturday, Helen Mortenson, president of the Las Vegas Ice Age Park Foundation, will speak about the park. Seating is limited. RSVP required. Also Saturday, a program for children 2-8 years old on winter-weather plants. On Dec. 12, a program for children 2-8 years old on ladybugs (515-5367).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
