Pop the Cork

Nothing against Champagne -- as bubbly alcoholic beverages go, it's one of our top three -- but, frankly, cracking open a bottle has always given us the willies.

Seriously, what could be more embarrassing than putting somebody's eye out with a Champagne cork whizzing by at Mach 3?

Fortunately, Williams-Sonoma has made opening a bottle of bubbly an anxiety-free affair with the Champagne Cork Catcher. Just position the gizmo on top of the bottle, twist and the cork is both removed and caught.

It's made from a zinc alloy and sports a black nickel-plated finish. Buy it online (www.williams-sonoma.com) and you can have it monogrammed for holiday gift-giving. Otherwise, it retails for $40 at Williams-Sonoma, which has stores at 1001 S. Rampart Blvd. in Las Vegas and 2255 Village Walk Drive in Henderson, as well as an outlet store in Primm.
