Smith film re-rated
Kevin Smith is known for movies that push the limits of good taste, but his latest comedy, "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," will carry an R rating instead of the adults-only NC-17 initially handed down. Motion Picture Association of America spokeswoman Elizabeth Kaltman said the rating was revised after the group's appeal board viewed the movie. "Zack and Miri," scheduled for an Oct. 31 release, stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as best friends who try to make a homemade porn movie to dig themselves out of debt.
DiCaprio as Lenin?
Who knew Soviet revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin was such a looker? According to Russian screenwriter Alexander Borodyansky, Leonardo DiCaprio bears a striking resemblance to the noted communist and would be perfect to star in a new black comedy. The plot of "Lenin's Brain" (the film's working title) features Russian scientists creating Lenin's clone in the late 20th century. He then comes to the United States and sparks a socialist revolution here in 2024.
Stooges gear stolen
It's been no fun for Iggy Pop and the Stooges after their equipment was stolen after a concert in Montreal. A 15-foot-truck stolen Monday contained all the group's instruments and stage gear, according to Stooges road manager Eric Fischer, who told the Detroit Free Press the lost items are worth tens of thousands of dollars. Police said the truck was found empty Tuesday, several blocks from the hotel where it was stolen. The Stooges were scheduled to make their Wednesday gig in Toronto using rented and donated equipment, Fischer said.
New city, new guests
Now that "Ugly Betty" has moved production to New York, there's a whole new set of celebrities who can make cameos on the show. For the third season premiere on Sept. 25, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa will pop up. The episode finds Mode editors Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) and Alexis Meade (Rebecca Romijn) appearing on "Live with Regis and Kelly" to promote Wilhelmina's first issue since taking over for Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius). Lindsay Lohan, who made a brief appearance in the season two finale, will appear later this season, as will Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos.
