‘Reindeer Cam’ lets curious observe Christmas preparations

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Anyone interested in seeing how reindeer behave this time of year can get a peek, anytime of the day.

Animal Planet has set up a “Reindeer Cam” at Como Park Zoo. The camera is up and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports viewers can watch the reindeer socialize, nap and eat. There are even some planned feedings by Santa Claus.

Reindeer range from 130 to 700 pounds. Reindeer also have a powerful sense of smell and can pinpoint food up to three feet beneath snow. They are also the only deer species in which both genders grow antlers.

Como Park Zoo director Michelle Furrer says people are fascinated with reindeer this time of year.
