South Point to have 2 steakhouses during NFR

You might think that after tusslin' with steers all night (or watching people tusslin' with steers) a cowboy might have a hankering for — we don't know; a nice vegetable plate, maybe, or some poultry? But apparently, you'd be wrong.

From Dec. 2 through Dec. 13 — which coincides with the staging of the National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack Center at UNLV — the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South, will convert its Don Vito's Italian Restaurant into a steakhouse.

Does that mean the resort's Silverado Steakhouse will be closed on those dates? Heck, no; it means the South Point, a hot spot for rodeo attendees, will have two steakhouses for 12 days.

They'll offer the same menu, so cowboys and -girls don't have to choose between them. The menu will, the resort says, offer "Italian classics and favorites among the Western lifestyle crowd," such as chicken Parmesan ($19), eggplant Parmesan ($19), spaghetti and meatballs ($20) and ratatouille baked in a pastry crust ($26).

Steaks will include filets mignon ($35 and $42), a 16-ounce bone-in ribeye ($45) and a 14-ounce New York strip, any of which can be gussied up with an au poivre treatment ($5), Oscar-style treatment ($12), crab legs ($25) or a lobster tail ($39), plus lots of seafood, sides and more.

Both restaurants will open daily at 4:30 p.m., with Silverado Steakhouse closing at 11 p.m. daily and Don Vito's closing at 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
