Street festival and concert added to Henderson off-road race weekend

Yellow Brick Road, a local classic rock tribute band, will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday in the downtown Water Street District as part of the festivities for the Terrible 400 Desert Race.

Yellow Brick Road is different from most tribute bands, which generally pay homage to one artist.

For the past 10 years, Yellow Brick Road has covered a variety of classic rock icons, including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones.

Downtown Henderson also will be the site of a street party from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

The festivities kick off with the technical inspection and contingency event, where fans can see more than 200 trucks, cars, buggies, motorcycles and UTVs.

There also will be food and shopping in the vendor village.

Considered one of the fastest courses in the Best in the Desert race series, the Henderson's Terrible 400 Desert Race will take place on Saturday in the Eldorado Valley, between Henderson and Boulder City.

Made up of two race courses -- one for motorcycles and ATVs and one for cars, trucks and buggies -- drivers, riders and race teams will try to complete five laps in a figure-eight style.

The start-finish line is positioned off U.S. Highway 95, near the Railroad Pass exit.

For details and a complete list of events, call 267-2171.

The race is presented by Best in the Desert Racing Association, the city of Henderson, Herbst Gaming and the city of Boulder City.
