Take the cake
November 22, 2007 - 10:00 pm
Happy Thanksgiving! And now that the Christmas season officially has arrived, it's time to begin the search for ways to put a cute, but inexpensive, spin on your yuletide celebrations.
Here's one for all of you home bakers: the Vintage Santa Pan from Williams-Sonoma.
The pan by NordicWare is a reproduction of a holiday pan from 1955, but updated with cast-aluminum construction and a nonstick interior. That will help to ensure that the numerous details -- Santa's cap, his bushy eyebrows, the chimney bricks -- won't crumble when you remove the cake from the pan.
The pan makes a Santa that's 101/4 inches tall. Join the halves with a touch of icing, then decorate Santa to the extent your dexterity and ambition allow.
The Vintage Santa Pan retails for $35 at Williams-Sonoma, which has stores at 1001 S. Rampart Blvd. in Las Vegas and 2255 Village Walk Drive in Henderson, as well as an outlet store in Primm. Or, you can buy it online (www.williams-sonoma.com).
