THE LIST: DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week

DVDS

"The Grand" (R): It filmed in Las Vegas, but never played in Las Vegas (except at last year's CineVegas film festival). But don't hold that against this mockumentary romp, which skewers the high-stakes poker tournament of the title and its memorably wacky participants -- played by an all-aces cast that improvises many of the movie's laughs.

Also out today: "John Adams" (Unrated); "The Bucket List" (PG-13); "The Other Boleyn Girl" (PG-13); "Jumper" (PG-13); "Funny Games" (R); "Witless Protection" (PG-13); and "The Signal."

CDS

Lil Wayne, "Tha Carter III": Shorty want a thug?

Of course you do. And so when Lil Wayne asks as much on his latest hit, "Lollipop," it's pretty much a rhetorical question.

After all, who's not down with Weezie? The ladies love him because he's the size of a tattooed teddy bear. The fellas love him because he compensates for his small stature with a big arsenal of bent wordplay.

Hey, even the cops love him, because he keeps them from getting bored (see his recent Arizona drug bust).

Despite all the drama, Lil Wayne remains among the best, most distinctive MCs in the game, rapping in a consonant-stretching Southern drawl that sounds like he's chewing marbles while delivering his rhymes.

Also in stores: Adele, "19"; Walter Becker, "Circus Money"; Jakob Dylan, "Seeing Things"; Emmylou Harris, "All I Intended To Be"; Montgomery Gentry, "Back When I Knew It All"; Alanis Morissette, "Flavors of Entanglement"; My Morning Jacket, "Evil Urges"; N.E.R.D., "Seeing Sounds"; Plies, "Definition of Real"; Supergrass, "Diamond Hoo Ha"; Martha Wainwright, "I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too"; Cassandra Wilson, "Loverly"; and Dan Zanes, "Nueva York!"

BOOKS

"Sail" by James Patterson: Anne Dunne plans a family sailing trip with her three children in an effort to bring the family together after the death of her husband. All the kids are a mess -- one on drugs, one suicidal, one practically catatonic -- and just when she thinks the trip can't get any worse, it does.

Also hitting shelves: "A Champion's Mind" by Pete Sampras; "Married Lovers" by Jackie Collins; "The Monster of Florence" by Douglas J. Preston; "Not in the Flesh: A Wexford Novel" by Ruth Rendell; "Undiscovered" by Debra Winger; "The Broken Window (Lincoln Rhyme, Book 8)" by Jeffery Deaver; and "The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending" by Jon Land.
