THE LIST: DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week

DVDS

"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" (R): Make sure you have a comfy seat, because this artsy Western is looooong. Brad Pitt is the outlaw James, and Casey Affleck nails his role as Ford. Don't expect extras with this release, though. Of course, with a running time of more than 21/2 hours, do you really want extras?

Also out today: "Across the Universe" (PG-13); "The Apartment" (Collector's Edition)" (Unrated); "The Aristocats: Special Edition" (G); "Disney Snow Buddies" (G); "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" (PG-13); "Feast of Love" (R); "Fierce People" (R); "Great World of Sound" (R); and "The Jane Austen Book Club" (PG-13).

CDS

Sheryl Crow, "Detours": She's so tough, you'd think her skin was coated in rawhide.

Sheryl Crow has battled breast cancer and a breakup with her former beau Lance Armstrong -- not to mention Wal-Mart in the past -- and still soldiered on. And with her latest record, "Detours," she proves herself to be as galvanized as ever.

An album posited on environmental consciousness, the disc sees Crow planting her green thumb right in your eye.

Also in stores: Taylor Dayne, "Satisfied"; Paul Hardcastle, "Hardcastle 5"; Hot Chip, "Made in the Dark"; Jack Johnson, "Sleep Through the Static"; Josh Kelley, "Special Company"; Lenny Kravitz, "It Is Time for a Love Revolution"; k.d. lang, "Watershed"; Bob Mould, "District Line"; and Nada Surf, "Lucky."
