Youth-only waterfowl hunt Oct. 22 in southern counties

REGULAR LIMITS APPLY

Youth-only waterfowl hunt
Oct. 22 in southern counties

Nevada's young hunters will have the southern flyways all to themselves during a youth-only waterfowl hunt scheduled for Oct. 22 in Clark and Lincoln counties.

The hunt is open to hunters who are 15 or younger, and each youth hunter must be accompanied by a person who is at least 18. However, the adults are not allowed to hunt.

Daily bag limits for ducks, geese and other waterfowl are the same as during the regular season. For ducks, the combined daily limit is seven birds and may include no more than two hen mallards, two pintails or two redheads and no more than one canvasback and three scaup. The possession limit is twice the daily limit. For Canada and white-fronted geese, the limit is three birds daily and six in possession.

Youth hunters 12 and older will need a current hunting license with a Nevada duck stamp and a Harvest Information Program (HIP) validation number. Hunters can obtain their free HIP number by calling (866) 703-4605.

Those planning to hunt the Overton or Key Pittman wildlife management areas during the youth waterfowl hunt will need a reservation. A drawing for reservations will take place at 8 a.m. Oct. 17 at the Nevada Department of Wildlife offices in Las Vegas (4747 W. Vegas Drive) and Henderson (744 S. Racetrack Road) and at the two management areas. The hunter, or his or her representative, must appear in person to secure a reservation.
