BECKER MIDDLE SCHOOL TO CELEBRATE 20 YEARS SATURDAY

Becker Middle School, 9151 Pinewood Hills Drive, has a 20th anniversary celebration scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday . The event is open to the public and will feature carnival games, food, drinks, and music and dance performances by Becker students.

Most of the games and activities will cost between 50 cents and $2, and local vendors will also be selling jewelry, clothing and art. At 3:30 p.m. p rincipal Amy Smith plans to open a time capsule buried on campus 20 years ago. For more information, call 702-799-4460.

ADELSON EDUCATIONAL CAMPUS TO HOST OPEN HOUSE NOV. 6

The Dr. Miriam & Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus, 9700 W. Hillpointe Road, has an open house for prospective high school students scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 6. Students interested in enrolling for the 2013-14 school year can spend the day at the school, attend classes and tour the facility.

VALLEY AUTOMALL SEEKS STUDENTS FOR ANNUAL TREE-DECORATING CONTEST

The Valley Automall is accepting entries on a first-come, first-served basis for its 15th annual tree-decorating contest, scheduled for Nov. 30.

The contest is open to student groups from all Clark County high schools. Students will decorate 20 dealer showrooms to compete for cash prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000. Teams will be provided a small budget to decorate a 10-foot-tall tree. Only one team per school will be accepted.

TWIN LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS GET NEW SHOES

Volunteers from Windermere Real Estate distributed more than 700 pairs of donated shoes Oct. 19 to students at Twin Lakes Elementary School, 3300 Riverside Drive. The event was part of Windermere's annual community service day. About 85 percent of the students at Twin Lakes live in poverty.

ARBOR VIEW HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM to HOST FUNDRAISERS

Arbor View High School, 7500 Whispering Sands Drive, has three fundraisers scheduled in November and December to help support its 2013 baseball program.

At 7 a.m. Saturday , a community rummage sale is scheduled in the school parking lot. Parking spaces will be available to rent to display and sell items, with renters keeping all proceeds. Two parking spaces are $25. To reserve a spot, call 702-809-6489.

At 6 p.m. Nov. 16, a spaghetti dinner is scheduled in the school's cafeteria. Tickets are $10 per person, and kids 3 or younger eat free. Dinner includes a spaghetti entree, salad, bread and a drink. Various desserts will be sold for 50 cents.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1, the school plans to host its fourth annual holiday baseball camp on the baseball field. Registration is set for 8 a.m. The camp is open to kids 8 to 14 and is $50 per player. Players are asked to bring water and lunch. High school coaches and players will teach the camp.

CLARK COUNTY SCHOOLS TO GET BOOST IN AIR QUALITY

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $32,000 grant to the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla., to assist the Clark County School District in developing an indoor air quality management program for its schools.

The university will help develop a program consistent with the EPA's Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools program, including controlling moisture and mold, maintaining quality heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, integrated pest control, and effective cleaning and maintenance. The funding is part of $1.2 million in EPA grants to 32 organizations nationwide to improve indoor air quality in schools.

TEACHERS CAN APPLY FOR $500 LITERACY GRANTS FOR CLASSROOMS

City National Bank's Reading Is the Way Up program is giving away $100,000 in literacy grants to local educators. Teachers, librarians, administrators and other school employees may submit a grant request for up to $500. The grants are to help students in kindergarten through 12th grade by offering creative literacy projects.
