Las Vegas officer struck, dragged by vehicle during traffic stop

A vehicle struck, then dragged an officer Saturday night after a physical altercation during a traffic stop in the central valley.

The Metropolitan Police Department officer attempted to stop a purple BMW just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of West Sirius Avenue and South Rancho Drive.

During the traffic stop, “some kind of confrontation occurred with the driver,” which escalated to a physical fight, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

The driver struck the officer with his vehicle and dragged him several feet before fleeing the scene, Meltzer said.

The officer was transported to University Medical Center’s trauma unit with injuries that are not life-threatening. Metro Lt. Tadd Dodds said the officer was “up and walking” after the crash.

Police said the purple BMW has California plates.
