1 dead, another critical after motorcycle crash in east valley

One man is dead and another is in critical condition following a Sunday morning motorcycle crash in the east valley.

Police responded at 5:44 a.m. to Montello Avenue, near East Charleston and North Nellis boulevards, after two men on a 1997 Honda CBR crashed into a parked truck in a residential driveway, said Metro Lt. John Liberty.

Yeltsin Cardona, the 21-year-old driver of the motorcycle, was driving south on Montello turning left onto Arlington Street when he struck a curb and ran off the road, striking a parked 2003 Toyota Tacoma, police said in a release.

The men were not wearing helmets, Liberty said.

Cardona was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

The 19-year-old passenger, Edgar Perez-Velasquez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the 54th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
