3 hospitalized, teen in custody after crash near downtown

Three people were hospitalized and a teenage boy was in custody after a three-vehicle wreck near downtown Las Vegas on Saturday morning, police said.

Las Vegas police were called about 8:30 a.m. to North Pecos Road, south of Stewart Avenue.

The initial investigation indicates a 17-year-old male driver of a 1993 Honda Accord was traveling north on Pecos and approaching Stewart at a high rate of speed when he crossed into oncoming traffic.

In the southbound lanes, the Honda crashed into a 2007 Mazda CX-7, driven by Sharon Edmondson, 68.

Both the Honda and the Mazda then collided with a 2008 Ford Taurus, driven by 51-year-old Doel Rojas.

The 17-year-old fled on foot after all three vehicles came to rest, but was apprehended a short time later.

Edmondson sustained substantial injuries, and Rojas’ injuries were moderate, police said. The boy claimed to be moderately injured as well. They were transported to University Medical Center.

Metro’s fatal detail responded to the wreck. It is being investigated by Metro’s accident investigations section.
