A Las Vegas rescue dog is bound for Puppy Bowl

From being abandoned in a dirty cardboard box to a trip to the big game, one Las Vegas resident is getting set for a very special Super Bowl Sunday.

But it’s about more than a shot in the spotlight for Keno, a wire hair Terrier mix who was recently dropped off with his brother in the lobby of the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Being chosen for Animal Planet’s annual Puppy Bowl means a chance at a forever home for the foster pet.

The Nevada SPCA was one of the shelters chosen to send in submissions for Puppy Bowl XI. After sending in many emails, pictures and videos, Keno was chosen to play in the big game for puppies. He will compete with 55 others to earn the title of MVP — Most Valuable Puppy.

By the time the show aired last year, most of the animals had been adopted already, affirming the cable channel’s message of promoting pet adoptions from rescue organizations.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman will join representatives from the Nevada SPCA near City Hall on Wednesday for an afternoon ceremony to see little Keno off.

The ceremonial fire hydrant dedication starts at 1:30 p.m. at the hydrant on the northwest corner of Clark Avenue and First Street.

You can see Keno play in the 2015 Puppy Bowl at 3 p.m. on Feb 1.
