Body recovered at Lake Mead
After three swimmers went missing at Lake Mead in as many days, one man’s body was recovered Wednesday evening, park officials say.
The body of 30-year-old Dindo Gavarra was pulled from the water about 8 p.m. after he jumped from a houseboat Tuesday for a swim without a life jacket and never made it to shore, Lake Mead National Recreation Area spokeswoman Christie Vanover said.
National Park Service rangers, the Nevada Department of Wildlife and Metro’s Search and Rescue unit all searched by air and in water for Gavarra and two other swimmers from separate incidences, who also went missing this week.
Family members searching for Gavarra spotted his body underwater Wednesday afternoon and called the Search and Rescue unit. The unit recovered the body, which was about 13 feet underwater and 75 feet from shore, Vanover said.
The Clark County coroner’s office will release Gavarra’s official cause of death.
The two other swimmers, who were reported missing in separate incidents on Sunday, had not been found as of Wednesday night. One is a 53-year-old man who was last seen at Willow Beach, and the other is a 25-year-old man last seen near the Boulder Islands.
“We are thankful that family, friends and other volunteers have offered to help with the searches,” Vanover said. “Our goal is to find these missing men as quickly as possible, so the families may find some comfort during this tragic time.”
