‘Cardboard city’ to raise funds for homeless families
October 13, 2011 - 10:14 am
Family Promise, a local nonprofit, will host its annual overnight "cardboard city" Saturday to draw attention to the plight of homeless families and raise money for the charity.
Participants should bring their own cardboard boxes, sleeping bags and pillows to the parking lot of Congregation Ner Tamid, 55 North Valle Verde Parkway, in Henderson. The event begins at 6 p.m. and goes until 7 a.m. Sunday.
Money will be raised through sponsorships by local businesses and donations from participants. Family Promise serves an average of 54 families a year in its transitional shelter program, and up to 20 families in its permanent housing program for homeless parents with disabilities.
