U.S. Poet Laureate to visit Nevada State College
United States Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera is set to speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in the new theater at Nevada State College, 1125 Nevada State Drive. This will mark Herrera's Nevada debut after being appointed the 21st U.S. Poet Laureate by the Library of Congress in June. All events, including a poetry workshop to be scheduled at the location, will be free and open to the public. Books needed for Safekey programs
Students at Clark County's 78 Safekey sites are in need of books, and Clark County commissioners and Las Vegas' new poet laureate are appealing to the community to help out.
The goal is to collect 3,000 new or gently used books for use by elementary school children enrolled in morning and afternoon Safekey programs. The programs are set to adopt the Apple Core reading program with the goal of setting aside 15 minutes of reading time during each Safekey session. For more information, visit clarkcountynv.gov.

Vegas Valley Book Festival schedule is up
Brad Meltzer and Colum McCann have been selected to be keynote speakers for this year's Vegas Valley Book Festival, Oct. 15-17.
Meltzer, author of "The Inner Circle," "The Book of Fate" and seven other best-selling thrillers, is set to open the festival Oct. 7 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
McCann is the author of two story collections and six novels, including the National Book Award-winning "Let the Great World Spin."
