News and achievements of Las Vegas Valley residents, July 30-Aug. 5, 2015

The Clark County Medical Society recognized two recipients for its 2015 Student Rising Star Award that honors outstanding medical students studying in Nevada. This year's recipients are Lindsey Murphy from the University of Nevada School of Medicine and Robert Wills from Touro University Nevada College of Medicine.

The International School of Hospitality announced that Executive Director Timothy M. Lam was named president of the Foundation of the National Association for Catering and Events.

Rodney Morrow, director of sales at Green Valley Ranch Resort, was selected as the recipient of the seventh annual Destination Champion Award. The award, which recognizes and encourages excellence in the Henderson hospitality community, was presented by Mayor Andy Hafen at the June 2 City Council meeting.

Angela Naeth of Las Vegas set a course record in the Ironman Texas North American Championship on May 16. Her victory secured a spot for her in October'€™s Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

Rhea M. Watson, an adult education advocate and who works as a literacy trainer for the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, was elected the Commission on Adult Basic Education's Region 7 representative by the organization's national membership. She will represent Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming at national board meetings.

Mike Mixer, executive managing director of Colliers International — Las Vegas, announced in May that the company'€™s 21st annual Links for Life Charity Golf Tournament raised more than $75,000 for children'€™s charities in Southern Nevada. Gaudin Motor Company honored employee Kersh Miller for 56 years of service with Gaudin Ford of Las Vegas during a retirement celebration and luncheon June 1. Miller received a plaque for his service and a 2014 Ford Flex Limited All Wheel Drive.

The PENTA Building Group recently helped raise $125,000 for three nonprofits during its 11th annual Charity Golf Classic at the Revere Golf Club in Henderson.

Daniel Ward of Las Vegas graduated in May from George Fox University in Newberg, Ore.

Air Force Airman Eric M. Heather graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Heather is the son of Michael M. Heather and Shani A. Marandola and grandson of Judith A. Marandola, all of Las Vegas. He is a 2014 graduate of Arbor View High School.

Alexandra Arguello, Hannah Cava, Devin Fluker, Natasha James and Tatiana Pagan, all of Las Vegas, and Connor Donnelly of Henderson made the spring 2015 dean'€™s list at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind.

Obim Okeke of Las Vegas graduated May 24 from Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn.

Air Force Airman Jaykub C. Chase graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Chase is the son of Shannon K. and Gary L. Chase of Las Vegas.

Derek Sutliffe of Las Vegas made the spring 2015 dean's list at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.

Thomas Campbell of Henderson and Francine Myers of Las Vegas graduated from Troy University in Troy, Ala.

Air Force Airman Michael A. McGlothlin graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. McGlothlin is the son of Karl and Julie McGlothlin of Henderson and is a 2014 graduate of Foothill High School.

Army Pvt. Valencia E. Dickens graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Dickens is the daughter of Hollie L. Milo of Las Vegas and is a 2013 graduate of Cimarron-Memorial High School.

Charnell Cain of Las Vegas received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tenn., on May 9.

James S. Lucas of Las Vegas graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, on May 24. Lucas, who majored in biology with a concentration in ecology and evolution and environmental science, is the son of James and Myrna Lucas of Las Vegas and a graduate of Green Valley High School.

Peter Jah and Eleanor Marrs, both of Henderson, made the spring 2015 dean'€™s list at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.

Kaitlyn Maurer of Henderson made the spring 2015 dean's list at the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tenn.
