FUTURE STARS OF WRESTLING PLANNED
MAY 25 AT SILVERTON

Professional wrestling event Future Stars of Wrestling is set for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 25 at the Silverton, 3333 Blue Diamond Road. WE HEART MAGGIE GOLF TOURNAMENT PLANNED AT BLACK MOUNTAIN

The 5th Annual We Heart Maggie Golf Tournament is set for May 26 at Black Mountain Golf & Country Club, 500 Greenway Road. The tournament is to benefit the Children’s Heart Foundation, a nonprofit that offers support to children with heart conditions living in Nevada. The tournament is hosted by foundation’s board members, John and Mollie Stewart, in memory of their daughter, Marguerite Anne Stewart.

RUN FOR A HERO

The Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation Fallen Heroes 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for at 8 a.m. May 18 at Bruce Trent Park, 1600 N. Rampart Blvd. at Vegas Drive.

May 18 is Armed Forces Day. The 5K will honor service members with ties to Nevada who have died.

ZUMBA-THON PLANNED AT THE SILVERTON

A two-hour Zumba class that incorporates pool workouts is planned for 6:30 p.m. May 17 at the Sway Pool Lounge at the Silverton, 3333 Blue Diamond Road.

The class is to be taught by a variety of instructors in a nightclub atmosphere. Giveaways, door prizes, photo ops and energetic music and instructors are scheduled. To join the party, attendees must bring $5 and five canned food items to help Three Square food bank. Attendees must be 21 or older with valid ID. WALK-A-THON PLANNED AT SUNSET PARK

The seventh annual National Angelman Syndrome Walk-a-thon is planned for 8 a.m. May 18 at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. Registration is available at 7 a.m., though early registrars will receive a T-shirt. The event includes a two-mile walk or a 5K run/bicycle ride around the park. Fishing is allowed with a permit. Drinks, refreshments, entertainment, face painting, balloon twisting and more are planned.

UNITED WAY PLANS GOLF BENEFIT

The second annual NV Energy — IBEW 396 United Way Golf Benefit is set for 6:30 a.m. May 21 at Silverstone Golf Club, 8600 Cupp Drive.

RÍ RÁ GOLF CLASSIC PLANNED

Rí Rá Las Vegas inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place is planning a charity golf classic, set for May 31 at Silverstone Golf Club, 8600 Cupp Drive. The event is to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The Rí Rá Golf Classic is an 18-hole, four-person modified scramble offering golfers a twist on the conventional charity golf tournament. The course features sponsored holes that offer participants alcoholic beverages during play. Golfers will compete to win awards in a variety of categories.

Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. with tee off beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Following the classic, Rí Rá is planning an after party and silent auction.

The golf classic is open to individuals and teams of four. Registration is $125 per player or $500 per team. For more information, visit rira.com and select Las Vegas. Hole sponsorships are also available and include one team registration per sponsorship.

The city of Las Vegas invites parents to enroll children in summer day camp programs at six area community centers. Open registration is ongoing at several locations until the camps are full.

Registration must be done in person. All locations will have limited enrollment. Contact each location for details.

Summer camps are scheduled for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 10. There will be no camp July 4.

Age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games, arts and crafts and nutrition training are planned under the supervision of trained staff members.

The following four locations will offer summer camps, priced at $75 per child for the week and $70 for additional children in the family:

Participants will enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS SUMMER CLINICS TO ARRIVE IN JUNE

The Harlem Globetrotters comedy basketball team plan to bring their Summer Skills Clinics to 24 Hour Fitness clubs in the Las Vegas area June 10-15.

During the six days in Las Vegas, Globetrotters players are slated to lead 18 two-hour clinics at two locations:

-- 9 to 11 a.m., 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. June 10-12 at 24 Hour Fitness Agassi Super Sport, 2090 Village Center Circle.

-- 9 to 11 a.m., 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and
3:30 to 5:30 p.m. June 13-15 at 24 Hour Fitness Ann Road Super Sport, 5651 Centennial Center Blvd.

The Globetrotters are to be on court for each two-hour session coaching, motivating, inspiring and entertaining participating kids. The stars of the team make clinics inclusive and fun for boys and girls, ages 6 to 12, of all skill and experience levels.

PLANNED FOR OCTOBER AT TPC summerlin

The 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf tournament is planned for Oct. 14-20 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle. The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is an official PGA Tour event. The 2013 tournament is set to feature more than 130 PGA Tour professionals competing for a $6 million purse, with a winner’s share of $1,080,000. All proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The event’s fourth annual Women’s Day luncheon, Kick Off Your Heels, is planned for Oct. 15. It will be catered and feature a guest speaker. Tickets are $125 per guest. The luncheon sold out in 2012, so early purchases are encouraged.

HUMANA GUIDANCE CENTERS SPONSOR WALKING GROUPS

Humana Guidance Centers are offering free walking groups led by a certified personal trainer. The program aims to positively impact seniors’ health by motivating and engaging them to take action and improve their fitness level and mental outlook by learning the proper walking and stretching techniques.

Participants will receive a free pedometer and at the end of each outing can upload their steps at a Guidance Center computer kiosk or at home to tracks steps taken, distance and calories burned.

SKI AND SNOWBOARD RESORT SET
TO KICK OFF SUMMER SEASON

The Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, 6725 Lee Canyon Road, is set to kick off its 2013 summer season May 25. The resort’s hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Activities include scenic chairlift rides, disc golf, hiking, mountain biking and lawn games. The resort also has room for tent and RV campers, and the Bighorn Grill and Bristlecone Bar will be open during regular summer hours. A selection of picnic baskets will be available for purchase at the Lee Canyon General Store in the main lodge.

During Memorial Day weekend, free scenic chairlift rides are offered to those who have or are serving in the U.S. military and their families.

The North Las Vegas recreation division’s activity schedule of classes, sports and recreation programs is available.

The program offers a variety of activities and special events that promote individuality, self-esteem and independence. The cost is $21 for one to three days, $28 for four days and $35 for five days each week.

SEEKS TEAM MEMBERS

Girls on the Run of Las Vegas is looking to start a team of girls in third through fifth grade in northwest Las Vegas and Summerlin. The group forwards a youth development program, where girls meet twice a week for discussions regarding empowerment, self-confidence and healthy living. The group incorporates stretching, games and running during that time. At the end of the 12-week program, the entire Las Vegas chapter gets together for a 5K race.
