July 31, 2014 - 4:42 pm
Henderson police on Thursday released the names of the officers involved in an early Tuesday morning shooting that left one dead, police said.
Officers Fergus Baxter and Charles Hedrick stopped Jesse Vigil, 51, who was riding his bicycle near a 7-Eleven store by Horizon Drive and Boulder Highway, police said.
Vigil confronted the officers and stabbed Baxter twice with a knife in the hip and thigh. That’s when the officers pulled away and fired their guns, killing Vigil, police said.
Baxter was treated and released at Sunrise Hospital, police said.
Baxter has been with the department since 2007, and Hedrick since 2008.
The officers are on routine paid administrative leave while the department investigates the shooting, police said.
