Henderson’s Heritage Park celebration set for Sept. 22
Henderson residents are invited to attend a grand opening celebration on Sept. 22 for Heritage Park, 350 S. Racetrack Road.
Mayor Andy Hafen, members of the City Council and the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department are hosting the 10 a.m. event.
With a ceremonial ribbon cutting, the event will feature activities for children, refreshments and tours of the park, which is between Burkholder Boulevard and Newport Drive.
Previous phases of the park's 160-acre campus saw completion of the Heritage Park Aquatic Complex and Heritage Park Senior Facility and the Bark Park dog park. Newly completed second-phase amenities include the following:
■ 13 multipurpose fields to accommodate soccer, football, lacrosse and rugby.
■ Two 90-foot baseball fields and a warm-up area.
■ Shaded picnic areas.
■ An amphitheater with shaded stage.
■ Open turf areas.
■ A concession building.
■ Children's play area.
■ Splash pads.
■ Doghouse-themed restrooms at the Bark Park.
"Residents and visitors will enjoy the park's outstanding amenities, especially its premier sports fields. But many aspects of what makes Heritage Park so unique might not be quite so obvious," said Mary Ellen Donner, director of the Parks and Recreation Department. "This is especially true of the park's many innovative green elements, which play an integral role in the city's efforts to demonstrate leadership in sustainable practices both in our operations and in our services."
Project funding of $20 million was received through a grant from the Bureau of Land Management as authorized by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act. The general contractor for the project is Target Construction.
