An attorney for rapper 50 Cent denied the music artist’s involvement in an armed robbery of a Los Angeles jewelry store owner in Las Vegas earlier this month, while a Metro spokesman suggested initial reports were inaccurate.
At 5 a.m. on May 2, Las Vegas police responded to a robbery in the 4000 block of Schiff Drive in Chinatown, said Las Vegas spokesman Jesse Roybal.
A man flagged down an officer at the 3700 block of Spring Mountain Road, claiming he had been robbed of “multiple items” Roybal said.
TMZ reported that Robert Marin, operator of LAX Jewelry Co., was invited to boxer Floyd Mayweather’s gym, 4020 Schiff Drive, after meeting 50 Cent at a Strip nightclub. Marin was “pistol-whipped,” the website said, and robbed of jewelry valued at $250,000.
New York-based attorney Scott Leemon, who represents the rapper, issued a statement on his client’s innocence.
“On behalf of 50, I can adamantly deny that he or his security had anything to do with these baseless and false allegations.” Leemon wrote.
On Tuesday, Roybal denied any knowledge that 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson III, was involved in the robbery.
“We know a robbery report was taken, and we just go with what we know,” Roybal said.
A police report had not been made public as of Tuesday, Roybal said.
