Man found dead in Lake Mead identified

The Clark County coroner's office confirmed that the man found dead in Lake Mead on Thursday night was a drowning victim authorities have been looking for since May 31.

The body of Ruben Aguirre-Martinez, 38, of Las Vegas was discovered floating near Callville Bay by a park visitor about 7:10 p.m. Medical examiners ruled Aguirre-Martinez died of an accidental drowning.

The National Park Service said the man disappeared after riding an inflatable raft being pulled by a boat. Two men on the boat jumped into the water to help Aguirre-Martinez onto the boat, but the raft and boat then floated away.

Aguirre-Martinez was not wearing a life jacket and disappeared in the water. The other two men shared a life jacket and were rescued by a passing boat.
