Man killed in single-vehicle crash on St. Rose at Maryland

An 88-year-old man died after a single-vehicle crash on St. Rose Parkway near Maryland Parkway early Sunday morning.

Melvin Dietrich was driving his Mercedes E350 the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of St. Rose Parkway about 3:40 a.m., according to Henderson police.

Dietrich's vehicle left the roadway, struck a cement drainage cover, several large rocks and a berm before coming to rest in the desert, a Henderson release said Monday.

Dietrich was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital Siena Campus where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

A preliminary investigation indicated that speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash. It wasn't immediately known whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The crash remains under investigation, according to the release.

This is the 11th traffic-related fatality in Henderson this year.
