Man threatening to jump from Flamingo and I-15 overpass falls
March 27, 2016 - 8:07 pm
A man threatening to jump off an overpass near Interstate 15 and Flamingo road slipped and fell, according to Metro Lt. Jeff Goodwin.
Goodwin said that the man lost his balance and fell over the side of the overpass, but caught the edge of a sign. As officers approached to help him up, he let go and fell to the freeway below. He was taken to the University Medical Center.
All southbound lanes of Interstate 15 were shut down near Flamingo Road while police were trying to negotiate with the man, but have been opened. Portions of Flamingo Road on the east and west sides are still closed, but there is at least one lane open traveling in each direction.
There have been numerous similar incidents in recent years. Another man died on Sept. 26, 2015, after jumping from the same overpass, while a 30-year-old Las Vegas man died April 11 in a fall from the Summerlin Parkway flyover to southbound U.S. Highway 95.
