Metro looking for bad drivers, jaywalkers on Maryland Parkway
March 20, 2015 - 11:17 am
Speeding drivers and jaywalkers beware: Las Vegas police will be on the lookout today.
Metro will have extra officers out along Maryland Parkway near the Boulevard Mall, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., according to a news release.
Officers will focus on pedestrians crossing outside crosswalks and drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians. Drivers must wait for pedestrians to get out of their travel lanes before turning.
Police also will look out for drivers who are distracted, speeding or not wearing seat belts.
As a reminder, Metro said, the speed limit is 30 mph on Maryland Parkway from Tropicana Avenue to Bonanza Road.
Fourteen pedestrians have been killed this year. Only six died during the same time period in 2014. Three bicyclists have been killed in 2015, compared to none during the same time period in 2014.
