NAACP trains church leaders on HIV education
The NAACP Las Vegas branch on Thursday held an HIV training session for senior faith leaders as part of a program to prepare Black church leaders to educate their congregations about HIV prevention and screening.
The training, conducted by the NAACP National Health Department, is designed to enlist faith leaders as change agents to address the impact of HIV and AIDS among African Americans, according to the organization.
Las Vegas is part of the national pilot program.
As of November, there were 3,520 people in Southern Nevada living with HIV and 3,166 people living with AIDS, according to Jennifer Sizemore, spokeswoman for the Southern Nevada Health District.
