Police: motorcyclist crashes on I-15 Sloan offramp

A motorcyclist is in critical condition after high speeds resulted in a crash.

Nevada Highway Patrol had received calls prior to the crash of a motorcyclist driving recklessly at high speeds north on Interstate 15 around mile marker 23, highway patrol spokesmen said.

Trooper Loy Hixson said highway patrol witnessed the motorcycle traveling at an estimated 100 mph. While there are reports that the motorcyclist was engaged in a speed contest with a yellow Corvette, highway patrol can not confirm this, Hixson said.

At about 4 p.m. highway patrol received a call that a motorcycle was down on the Sloan offramp. The male rider, a Las Vegas resident, lost control coming off the interstate and slid through the intersection at South Las Vegas Boulevard, coming to rest in a vacant desert lot.

The rider of the motorcycle was critically injured and taken to University Medical Center in a helicopter.

Traffic on the interstate was not affected.
