Police: No arrest after child struck by truck

A young boy suffered a head injury on Thursday morning after a truck hit him in northwest Las Vegas, police said.

The boy was hit near the intersection of Carmen and Jones boulevards, near Vegas Drive. First responders were called about 6:30 a.m. The driver of a small truck hit the boy, Metro Lt. Sean Toman said.

The boy was taken to University Medical Center with a head injury described as not life-threatening.

The driver was initially detained for suspicion of driving under the influence, Toman said.

Police ended up not making an arrest, according to Metro spokesman Jose Hernandez.

Officers were on the scene until about 8:30 a.m., Hernandez said.
