For those who had a hunch winter was setting in too early in Southern Nevada, well, you were right.
Sunday's high temperature of 55 degrees marked a record for the lowest high temperature on a Nov. 6, according to the National Weather Service office in Las Vegas.
The previous record for the date was 57 degrees set in 1938.
The average high temperature for Nov. 6 is 71 degrees.
Meteorologist Chris Stachelski said the cooler temperatures are expected to continue today . He said the high temperature is expected to be 57 degrees, breaking another record. The previous lowest high temperature for a Nov. 7 was 58 degrees set in 2000.
The temperatures are gathered at McCarran International Airport, the weather service's official recording station.
Stachelski said Sunday night's and tonight's lows will be a chilly 40 degrees.
"The next two nights will be the coldest of the season so far," Stachelski said Sunday night. He said the temperatures will warm up and are expected to climb to highs of about 65 degrees Thursday.
Stachelski said the cooler weather resulted in more snow on Mount Charleston. More than 2 inches of snow accumulated Sunday morning at about 9,000 feet, near the ski resort. More snow isn't expected to fall on the mountains until next weekend, he said.
