Two-vehicle crash leaves motorcyclist dead

A motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash in the west side of the valley, according to Las Vegas Police.

Police responded at 3:11 p.m. to the collision at the intersection of North Rampart Boulevard and West Point Conception Drive, according to Metro spokesman Larry Hadfield. Rampart was reportedly shut down while police investigated the crash involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck.

Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate the 2004 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle was northbound on Rampart, approaching Point Conception, as the pick-up truck, a 2000 Nissan Frontier, was turning left from southbound Rampart onto eastbound Point Conception.

The motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of the truck and both vehicles slid southeast before they came to a rest. The 21-year-old male motorcyclist, a Las Vegas man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The 44-year-old driver of the Frontier was not injured and stayed at the scene.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the name of the motorcyclist after his family has been notified.

This is the 42nd traffic-related death in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
