UNLV to host forum on Japan nuclear crisis

Japan's nuclear power crisis will be the focus of a public forum Monday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Experts from UNLV's Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies will present an overview of the explosions and partial meltdowns that occurred at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant after last week's 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami knocked out power vital to cooling the complex's reactors.

The panel, which includes Paul Seidler, executive director of the Nevada Alliance for Defense, Energy and Business, will also discuss implications of the crisis for the global nuclear industry and U.S. policy.

The forum, which is free, will begin at 7 p.m. at UNLV's Marjorie Barrick Museum Auditorium. Seating is limited to 150.
