Veterans invited to NLV health care meeting

As part of a nationwide reform effort launched by Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald, the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System will hold a town hall meeting Thursday evening to gather feedback from veterans, family members, congressional staff and other stakeholders.

The public meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the North Las Vegas VA Medical Center Auditorium, 6900 North Pecos Road.

McDonald visited the medical center in August as one of his first stops on a cross-country tour of VA facilities after his U.S. Senate confirmation July 29 to replace former VA chief Eric Shinseki. Shinseki, a retired Army general, resigned his VA post in May after public outcry as scandals surfaced and veterans complained of long waits for health care.

Among his plans to fix the Department of Veterans Affairs, McDonald announced town hall meetings “to improve communications with, and hear directly from, veterans nationwide as an important step toward improving the delivery of services and rebuilding trust among all those VA serves,” according to the VA’s news release.
