Ex-guard who supplied pot to inmates gets probation

CARSON CITY — A former Nevada correctional officer who pleaded guilty to supplying inmates with marijuana has received a suspended prison sentence and placed on probation, the attorney general's office said Thursday.

According to authorities, Ronald Hunt, 39, provided marijuana to inmates at High Desert State Prison, about 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas, in September 2014. In exchange, he received payment by wire transfers from members of the inmates' families.

Hunt was sentenced to a prison term of 12 to 30 months. Clark County District Judge Kerry Earley suspended the prison time provided Hunt successfully complete three years of probation.

Hunt was charged with one count of furnishing a controlled substance to a state prisoner, a Category B felony. He pleaded guilty earlier this year.
