Floodwater bus case resolved in northwestern Arizona

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A plea agreement is resolving the case against a Las Vegas man accused of foolishly driving a tour bus through raging floodwater in northwest Arizona.

Joseph Razon, 53, has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor reckless driving charge in the July 28, 2013, incident, according to defense attorney Billy Sipe.

Razon and 32 passengers safely exited the C.H. Destinations tour bus after it was swept about 300 yards down a churning wash during a monsoon season storm. The group was attempting to return to Las Vegas after an excursion to the Skywalk at Grand Canyon West.

No one was injured in the incident which drew public attention to the dangers of trying to cross flooded washes during intense storm activity.

Sipe said Razon has paid a $500 fine and that the insurance company for the tour operator has reimbursed about $3,600 to public safety agencies involved in the passenger rescue effort.
