Nevada reported 24 hate crimes to FBI in 2014

Law enforcement agencies in Nevada reported 24 hate crimes in 2014, according to the FBI.

Three police departments in the state reported hate crimes — incidents motivated by bias against a person's race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability, according to an FBI report released Monday.

Henderson police reported two hate crimes to the FBI in 2014: one case of racial bias and one of ethnic bias. North Las Vegas police had one crime involving an ethnic bias.

Las Vegas police had the bulk of the cases with seven crimes motivated by racial bias, nine involving sexual orientation and one involving ethnicity.

Reno police reported one crime involving an ethnic bias, one involving a religious bias and two involving race.

No departments in the state reported incidents motivated by a victim's gender or disability, and for the second year in a row no hate crimes against people who are transgender or gender non-conforming were reported.

Nationally, law enforcement agencies reported 5,479 hate crime incidents, according to the FBI. Figures were down from 2013, when 5,928 hate crime incidents were reported.

Only 1,666 of the 15,494 contributing law enforcement agencies reported hate crimes within their jurisdiction.
