A fatal crash in Nye County on Monday happened when a sedan tried to pass a tractor-trailer on a two-lane section of U.S. Highway 95, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The driver of a white 2009 Toyota Corolla was northbound on Highway 95, near mile marker 17, just past the intersection of State Route 160, just before noon and tried to pass the semi, NHP said Tuesday. The Corolla entered the southbound lane and struck blue 2011 Mini Cooper.
The front passenger of the Corolla, 21-year-old Adam Al-Nuaimi, of Reno, was pronounced dead at the scene, NHP said.
The Corolla driver, also from Reno, the 82-year-old male driver of the Cooper and his 74-year-old passenger, both of Sparks, were flown to University Medical Center in serious condition, NHP said.
The driver of the semi, a 52-year-old man from Chico, Calif., was not injured.
This is NHP’s 27th fatal collision for 2015.
