Nevada ranks 50th out of 51 when it comes to volunteering. A study for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says factors such as high foreclosure rates, the number of homeowners versus renters and education levels help determine whether residents have a long-term commitment to their communities.

We R Community program gives students philanthropy experience

Between homework, exams and extracurricular activities, students at 14 local high schools are finding time to run their own foundations. They will spend the school year creating a mission statement, researching nonprofit organizations, reviewing grant applications and funding grants that will help the community as part of the Public Education Foundation’s We R Community program.

School volunteers look to make positive impact

For students in at-risk communities, you could be just what they need. The Clark County School District is seeking volunteers for two of its districtwide service programs. All you need is a passion for education and a little free time.

Hospitals would band together to aid valley during disasters

Nevada State Museum finally ready for Springs Preserve home

For awhile it seemed the brand new Nevada State Museum at the Springs Preserve would never open its doors.
The $51.5 million building sat empty as state budget issues delayed its opening. On Oct. 28, the museum will finally be open for business, six years later than planned.
