Southern Nevada has moved beyond “unreasonable warmth” and into record-breaking territory, after Las Vegas officially broke the daily record Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Las Vegas is closing out a calm, mild week with another day of sunshine Friday, continuing the stretch of clear skies that has held over the valley since earlier in the week.

“It’s certainly a worrying sign coming on the heels of 13 straight record -setting months,” said Berkeley Earth climate scientist Zeke Hausfather, who estimates there’s a 92% chance that 2024 will beat 2023 as the warmest year on record.
The Monday high temperature reached 112 at Harry Reid International Airport, well below the 115 record high for July 22, set last year.
An excessive heat advisory begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and runs through 9 p.m. Sunday. High around the region are expected to range from 110 to 115.

A flash flood warning was in effect for Henderson and the southeast valley in the afternoon.
The forecast called for the haze to be fairly widespread around the noon hour with calm winds.
