Lady Gaga will join Joe Biden for rally at UNLV

Lady Gaga will join Vice President Joe Biden during his visit to UNLV next week, school officials said Wednesday.

The Nevada stop on April 7 is part of a multicity tour Biden is holding next week to promote the “It’s On Us” campaign, aimed to raise awareness about sex abuse in campus communities nationwide. Biden, who wrote the 1994 Violence Against Women Act, intends to leave a legacy as a defender of battered women.

The Associated Press reported that the pop star and the vice president will hold a rally at UNLV. A White House spokeswoman declined to offer more details and said the vice president’s office would release a statement later this week with more information about the event.

The duo teamed up at the Academy Awards in February. Biden received a standing ovation when he introduced the singer, who performed her Oscar-nominated song “Til It Happens to You,” about sexual assault on campuses.

Biden, in an interview with Billboard magazine, said he admired Gaga for her courage and he credited her with encouraging other women to “step forward.”

“She’s a survivor who has the courage to speak out, and I know how difficult that can be,” Biden said.

Biden will also visit the University of Pittsburgh and University of Colorado, Boulder.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
