1 dead, 1 injured in motorcyle accident Sunday night

A motorcycle accident left one person dead and another seriously injured Sunday night in east Las Vegas, according to Las Vegas police.

A 2007 Kawasaki Ninja was traveling west on Judson Avenue at Lee Street, near East Carey Avenue and Toiyabe Street, about 7:20 p.m. when it ran off to the right side of the street and onto the sidewalk near a bend in the road.

Driver Juan Ibarra, 19, was ejected from the motorcycle and hit a lamp post. The 14-year-old male passenger fell to the ground with the motorcycle, pinned underneath it as the motorcycle came to a stop. Witnesses in the area pulled the motorcycle off the passenger, police said.

Ibarra and the passenger were taken to University Medical Center. Ibarra was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation. This is the 25th traffic-related fatality for 2014, according to Las Vegas police.
