78-year-old man killed in collision at intersection

A 78-year-old man from Arizona died Monday after his vehicle was struck by a driver who ran a red light near East Sahara Avenue and Commercial Center, Las Vegas police said.

Police did not identify the victim but said the man was from Fort Mohave, Ariz. The collision occurred at 3:07 p.m.

Police said 54-year-old Eloisa Taqueban of Las Vegas was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty when she ran a red light at the Sahara and Commercial Center intersection. Police said she hit the elderly driver's 2009 Ford Focus, which was southbound on Commercial Center. The driver was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Taqueban was taken to Sunrise. Also transported to the hospital was a passenger, 66-year-old Carol Gold of Las Vegas. Police did not specify whether the two were injured, and they also didn't specify which vehicle Gold was in.

Police didn't say whether Taqueban was cited. The collision, which is the 54th traffic-related fatality under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police, remains under investigation.
