A thin silver lining to Ensign affair
June 18, 2009 - 9:17 pm
Not much good can come from Sen. John Ensign's admission that he had an affair. This kind of thing obviously is hardest on the senator's family, but it affects staffers and constituents as well.
That said, I would suggest one small positive effect: This revelation should end any and all chatter about Ensign as a potential presidential candidate. The commander-in-chief talk was absurd from the onset. Surely most Nevadans couldn't have taken it seriously, knowing that Ensign is primarily style over substance. Nationally, the Republicans who thought it might be a good idea were obviously desperate to find somebody with good hair and very few skeletons (oops) to revive their moribund party.
So, "Ensign for President" is over. Good. Now we can return to reality.
