Alcohol possible factor in fatal Summerlin Parkway collision
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in a head-on crash that killed two people on eastbound Summerlin Parkway Wednesday afternoon, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Highway Patrol responded to the scene on Summerlin Parkway west of Rampart Boulevard about 4 p.m. after a Chevrolet pickup traveling west crossed the median to eastbound Summerlin Parkway and hit a Toyota Corolla.
The driver of the Corolla, a 20-year-old woman, and her 31-year-old male passenger died at the scene, according to Highway Patrol spokesman Loy Hixson.
The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition. Hixson said alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash.
The speeds at which the two vehicles were traveling is unknown, but Hixson said it looked like “freeway speed” based on the damage.
Eastbound Summerlin Parkway, between Town Center Drive and Rampart, was closed for several hours as Highway Patrol investigated the fatal crash. It reopened shortly after 9 p.m.
