Area dealers association raises funds at golf tourney

A record field of golfers representing the Las Vegas New Car Dealers Association converged on Revere Country Club at Anthem in Henderson June 9 for a day of fun while also raising funds for the Wounded Warriors Foundation and the American Heart Association.

The annual event was coordinated by Findlay North Volkswagen marketing director Jim Donohue.

“This was an awesome amount of work, but it was worth every bit of the time it took to put it together,” said Donohue, a native of New London, Conn., who has been in the car business for 15 years.

Findlay North Volkswagen earned the right to promote the tournament after winning the event in 2012. The latest event was again by Findlay North Volkswagen.

“I’m already thinking about next year’s tournament to make it even better,” Donohue said . “We all know that presenting the tournament is very important to not only our dealership but also the entire dealers association.”

With more than 280 players involved in the tournament, even a day with temperatures of more than 100 degrees could not keep the event from becoming a blockbuster.

Numerous prizes were distributed after the tournament . Donohue said the list of prizes and gifts were valued at more than $25,000.

“This was really a teamwork effort,” Donohue said. “We had incredible participation from everyone and especially our vendors.”

Among the participants in the tournament was Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep general manager Don Hamrick.

“This tournament has been in existence for more than 40 years,” said Hamrick, who has lived in Southern Nevada since 1978. “We used to play it at the old Tropicana Golf Course and, in fact, we even traveled all the way to Pahrump for one of the tournaments.

“Even though we’re all competitors, we get together every year for this tournament and have a great time. This is a great group.”
