Astronaut shoots stunning timelapse from space — VIDEO

Astronaut Alexander Gerst gives a stunning and surreal view from the International Space Station in a new timelapse video.

The European astronaut shot the footage during his six month Blue Dot mission. According to the official Blue Dot website, the mission was launched in May 2014 and is named after Carl Sagan’s description of Earth as “a pale blue dot.”

The timelapse shot by Gerst combines hundreds of images and shows magnificent views of the atmosphere, the Milky Way, several cities at night and weather phenomenons.
