Barlow foresees work ahead on City Council

It's Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow now.

Barlow was sworn into office Wednesday and vowed to work hard for the community.

"I've seen a lot of changes, and a lot of changes need to be made," he said.

Barlow had served as Lawrence Weekly's liaison since 1999, before Weekly was appointed to the Clark County Commission.

He faces a number of issues as the Ward 5 representative, which includes some of the older sections of Las Vegas, as well as portions of downtown.

At Wednesday's council meeting, Barlow postponed the selection of a developer to bring a grocery store into Ward 5.

He said he wanted to meet more with the developers and the community.

At the start of the council meeting, Barlow posed for pictures flanked by his fiancee, his 9-year-old son, and his father, Nate Barlow Jr.

"I'm so relieved, so happy and so proud, more proud than anything else I know," the new councilman's father said.

Among the people Barlow thanked was Weekly, who was not at the council meeting.
